BROWNIE CAKE
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
4 (rounded) tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup cold water
½ cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
Icing:
½ cup butter
4 (rounded) tablespoons cocoa powder
6 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease jelly-roll pan.
In a large mixing bowl combine sugar, flour and salt.
In a small saucepan melt butter with cocoa powder. While that is melting, heat water to boil. When butter is melted, pour in boiling water stirring constantly and allow mixture to boil 1 minute. Pour this mixture into mixing bowl with flour and sugar and mix well.
In a measuring cup, combine remaining cake ingredients and mix well. Stir this mixture with other ingredients in mixing bowl and mix well. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 20 minutes.
Prepare icing while cake is baking. Heat butter, cocoa powder and milk to boiling. Remove from heat, add vanilla and mix in powdered sugar until smooth. Ice cake while cake and icing are both warm.
Makes 24 servings
