Date Nut Bread
1 pound dates, cut up
1 1/2 cups water
2 teaspoons soda
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 tablespoons
shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 3/4 cup flour
1 cup nuts (optional)
Cut dates and add water,
boil 3 minutes and cool. Add soda then add sugar, shortening, egg,
vanilla and dry ingredients. Bake at 275 degrees for 50 minutes in
greased pans.
